Wei Jie is a child clinical psychologist who works closely with children on the autism spectrum and their families. He helps parents better understand their child’s strengths, challenges, and developmental needs, while building practical, age-appropriate strategies that improve everyday functioning at home and in school.
He has extensive experience supporting children with neurodevelopmental conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and intellectual disability. He also works with children who present with co-occurring emotional and behavioural difficulties such as anxiety, depression, specific phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and selective mutism. Where needed, he supports children with oppositional or behavioural challenges using structured and age-appropriate approaches.
Wei Jie’s approach is practical, structured, and family-centred. He works collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and schools to ensure consistency across settings and to support meaningful progress. His work integrates evidence-based autism interventions such as visual supports, structured teaching, social stories, and comic strip conversations. He also supports adolescents with autism in navigating puberty and sexuality, providing clear and sensitive guidance for both the young person and their family.
Wei Jie believes in authenticity and strives to establish a safe and genuine space in therapy with his young clients and caregivers. He emphasizes building a strong rapport with each child in order to allow therapeutic interventions to be effective. He journeys alongside the young person and his or her family towards mental and emotional well-being to live a meaningful life the young person envision for himself or herself.
He has conducted group therapy programmes for children with autism, focusing on social skills, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. In individual therapy, he also uses evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to support children with anxiety and mood-related concerns.
Wei Jie believes that a holistic approach to intervene and support the young client is critical in ameliorating the conditions which affect their daily functioning.
Wei Jie is trained in gold-standard autism diagnostic assessments, including the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2). He also conducts cognitive and adaptive assessments (e.g., WISC-V, WAIS-IV, CTONI, Vineland-3) to support educational planning, including applications to special education schools. He began his clinical practice at the Child Guidance Clinic (CGC) at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), where he provided assessment and intervention for children and adolescents with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
He takes a holistic approach to care, focusing not only on reducing symptoms but also on building functional skills that improve a child’s daily life. Wei Jie places strong emphasis on creating a safe, structured, and supportive therapeutic environment, and on building a strong therapeutic relationship with both the child and their caregivers.
In his personal time, Wei Jie enjoys spending time with his 6-year-old Shiba Inu dog, Katsu, and has recently taken up indoor gardening, which allows him to connect with nature and cultivate mindfulness.
Wei Jie offers therapy both in person and online. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.
