Haanusia Prithivi Raj

Haanusia is a Clinical Psychologist and has been in continuous practice for over 10 years. She is a Registered Psychologist in Singapore and is also a Registered Clinical Supervisor (SRP). She is currently completing her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (Health) at James Cook University (JCU) in 2023.

Across her career, Haanusia has worked in tertiary, inpatient, community, and other settings. She has vast experience working with young children, adolescents, and adults with psychiatric problems. In 2015, Haanusia was awarded the Healthcare Humanity Award for establishing the first paediatric OCD service at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for young persons with moderate to severe OCD. The OCD programme provides multi-disciplinary assessment and management that are updated with the current research and in line with best practice. She has also been training other psychologists and psychiatrists on providing best-practice management of OCD. In 2018, Haanusia published the 1st OCD workbook for children and adolescents in Singapore (title: Fighting the OCD monster: A cognitive behaviour therapy workbook for treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder in children and adolescents Singapore: World Scientific).

She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents in addressing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma as well as other developmental disorders such as ADHD and ASD. She received advanced training in multiple modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), and uses a collaborative approach to choose the best form of practice to fit the need of the child.

Haanuisa places great emphasis on building a safe space for communication and dialogue to explore and work on mental health concerns in children and families across diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Haanusia also has a special interest in perinatal mental health including issues around post-natal anxiety, depression and OCD, as well as on grief and loss in the perinatal population. She also works closely with parents and families in managing parenting struggles, as well as in guiding families to providing respectful parenting. As both an inpatient and outpatient clinical psychologist in a tertiary hospital, Haanusia has extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults with complex trauma, anxiety, depression and self-harm issues. She also works hard at providing an open, respectful and safe therapeutic environment for those with gender dysphoria, and within the LGBTQ+ community.

Her work with the younger population includes collaborative work with schools and community agencies. She has provided training and support to residential homes, care providers, and public members on mental health issues as well as on management of these problems. She also provides training and supervision to other psychologists, psychiatrists, and other multi-disciplinary members such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and etc.

Haanusia enjoys spending time in nature with her family, and bakes to unwind from a busy day. She enjoys travelling, and photography and is keeping her fingers crossed to be able to freely travel without restrictions again.

She provides therapy in English, Malay and Tamil.
